Regional Workshop on the New Basel Capital Accord, Corporate Governance and Credit Risk Management : November 17-20,2003

Organised by PFTAC, the Regional Workshop on the New Basel Capital Accord, Corporate Governance and Credit Risk Management was the first collaboration between the Association of Financial Supervisors of Pacific Countries (AFSPC) and the Financial Stability Institute (FSI). Consistent with the objectives of the AFSPC the FSI is assisting supervisors from Pacific Island countries improve and strengthen their financial systems.

Speakers for the 2003 workshop included Ms Betsy Roberts, Director of the FSI; Mr Bernie Egan, Program Director, Basell II, Australian Prudential Regulation Authority; Mr Ralph Lewars, Advisor, International Advisory Group, Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, Canada; Mr Andrew Milford, IMF Advisor at the Reserve Bank of Vanuatu; and Mr John Velegrinis, General Manager, ANZ Bank, Fiji. There were 25 participants representing 9 Pacific Island countries plus obersvers from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and the State of Hawaii Division of Financial Institutions.

Funding for the Workshop was provided by the adminstered account for selected Fund activities of the Government of Japan.
